The Boeing RC-135 is one of the aircraft that were based on the airframe of the C-135 Stratolifter. Unlike the C-135 and the KC-135, which were collectively recognized as the Model 717, the RC-135 was separately known as the Model 739. Though the Boeing RC was also equipped with the J57-P engine, it was the only variant that carried cameras on the nose. The aircraft gained attention in 1962 when it was employed by the US Air Force as a replacement for the RB-50 Superfortress. The RC-135 was to serve as a surveillance plane that collects real-time and on-scene data. The aircraft was made primarily for intelligence purposes but was also equipped with analysis and dissemination capabilities. With such role, the RCs were initially employed by the Strategic Air Command until 1992 when it was re-assigned to the Air Combat Command. During its military service, the Boeing 135 saw quite a lot of battles because of its vital role in tactics.
