Douglas F4D Skyray

Developed by the Douglas Aircraft Company, the F4D Skyray was an American supersonic fighter and interceptor that was later re-designated as the F-6 Skyray. The Skyray was in service for a short time and never engaged in combat. Nevertheless, the F4D was known for being the first aircraft to hold the world's absolute speed record, at 752.943 mph and was the first United States Navy and United States Marine Corps fighter that could exceed Mach 1 in level flight. It was the last fighter produced by the Douglas Aircraft Company before it joined with McDonnell Aircraft and eventually became McDonnell Douglas.
