Mastercraft Collection: Me 262 Schwalbe..
Wingspan: 12 inches
Length: 10 inches
The Messerschmitt Me 262 prides itself for having a groundbreaking design, which was significant at a time when every other nation of power had been considering the turbojet for future military-based aviation. Initially, the Me 262 jet was built with a standard undercarriage formation but later on, it was changed into a tricycle format, which was more modern. The first Schwalbe was made with piston engine nestled on its nose and would remain so until the jet engines were ready. Once they were ready, the turbojet engines flared themselves out on its first flight, making the pilot perform an emergency landing using power from the piston engine. When hostilities ended in May 1945, the Allied powers scrambled to get their hands on the remaining units of Me 262s.
This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
