The KC-10 Extender was an advanced cargo aircraft and aerial tanker designed to provide the US Armed Forces with increased global mobility. Though its original purpose was aerial refueling, the aircraft was also capable of doing a combination of tasks. Aside from being a transport aircraft and a tanker, the KC 10 aircraft also refueled fighting aircraft while carrying the fighter support staff and equipment on deployments needed overseas. It has played a key role in the bombing of Libya (1986), the bombing of Yugoslavia by NATO (1999), and the more recent missions such as Iraqi Freedom and Noble Eagle and Operations Enduring Freedom.
