GBU-12 Paveway II 500lbs
Wingspan: 1.5 inches
Length: 11 inches
GBU-12 Paveway II was a 500 general purpose bomb with the ability to be laser guided to its target. The GBU-12 was guided to its target by a soldier on the grounding painting it with a laser. This targeting system is called semi active laser or Man in the Loop system. The fins guided the bomb to the target by making corrections too far then compensating back. This gave the bomb an erratic flight path. During Operation Desert Storm, this guided bomb hit 88% of its targets. This was also the tank busting weapon of choice by F-111F pilots in the Desert Storm campaign.
