On June 6, 1944, D-Day's "Operation Overlord" brought a company of 156,000 Allied troops to France's Normandy coast. This assault was one of the largest and most tactically complex seabourne invasions in history. A crucial step in liberation of German-occupied France (and later western Europe), the invasion on D-Day laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front.
Einsenhower famously addressed the company of Allied soldiers the day before launching the attack:
"You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you."
Matted to include M-1 Garand bullet.
Certificate of Authenticity included.
