Product Details

The Boeing 377, or Stratocruiser, was a large long-range airliner built after World War II. It was developed from the C-97 Stratofreighter, which a military derivative of the B-29 Superfortress and used for troop transport. The B377 was released in the late 1940s; it was powered by four piston engines, had a pressurized cabin, which was a relatively new feature to transport aircraft at the time, and two decks. Using the B377, airlines were able to make transoceanic flights easier and faster, which enabled easier international travel to places such as Hawaii. Despite this, the Stratocruiser was considerably more expensive to buy and operate than the competing Douglas DC-6 and Lockheed Constellation. As a result, only 55 Stratocruisers were built for airlines. This specific model is painted in the Northwest Airlines paint scheme. Northwest Airlines, NWA, was a major United States airline founded in 1926 and absorbed into Delta Air Lines in October 2008.

This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
