The F6F Hellcat was a Grumman designed and manufactured naval fighter in the 1940Õs that has served mainly with the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. As a naval fighter, the Hellcat was a carrier-based aircraft during World War II, and was a conceived to replace its predecessor, the F4F Wildcat. The Cat OÕ Nine was an effective fighter during World War II, accounting for about 75% of the US NavyÕs victory in the Pacific theater. By 1944, the Hellcat was equipped with radar for the night attack squadrons. The F6F Hellcat was powered by radial engine and was equipped with an assortment of bombs, guns and rockets.
