Mastercraft Collection: A-26 Invader Glass Nose..
Wingspan: 12 inches
Length: 8.5 inches
The Douglas A-26 Invader is a war veteran in the truest sense of the word; it is the only American light bomber to serve during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. With its powerful twin engine, this aircraft proved a capable fighter during the day and at night and could operate at low and medium altitudes with relative ease. The A-26 Invader proved to be one tough cookie by taking a substantial amount of damage and still returning its crew to home base. Some models were equipped for photoreconnaissance and target-towing duties. A lethal bomber, the Douglas A26 could carry 4,000 to 8,000 lbs. of drop bombs or 8 to 14 x 5-inch rockets. The aircraft was known, in fact, to carry greater bomb loads than the much larger B-17 Flying Fortress. The last A-26 Invader was donated to the SmithsonianÕs National Air and Space Museum in 1972.
This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
