Product Details

Development of the F-100 Super Sabre actually traces back to January 1951. It was at this time when North American Aviation presented the Sabre 45, which was the earliest ancestor of the Super Sabre. The Sabre 45 aircraft was considered by the US Air Force but was required to undergo a handful more re-modifications. The final design for the F-100 Sabre, which was notably titanium-based, was officially introduced ten months after on November 1951. The first prototype, designated as the YF-100A, was first flown on May 1953. Quite uniquely, the plane immediately showcased its worth by achieving a Mach 1.05 flight. This meant that the aircraft was the first to fly faster than the speed of sound. Hence, with notable specs and performance, the F100 Sabre was eventually employed by numerous USAF squadrons. Among those was the renowned USAF flight demonstration team. The USAF Thunderbirds employed the F-100D Super Sabre from 1964 to 1968. This saw the F-100 Thunderbird aircraft flymost US states, the Caribbean, the Latin American region, and even Europe. The aircraft served the team in between the F-105 Thunderchiefs and the F-4E Phantoms.
