The F-14 Tomcat was designed as a long-range naval interceptor after the F-11B failed to meet the expectations of its pilots. This aircraft can seat two people in its cockpit and has a bubble canopy for better viewing angles. The F-14 aircraft is renowned for its geometric wings that can swing when the airplane in midair. Initially this run on two Pratt and Whitney TF30 turbofan engines but this was receive with negative criticisms because almost thirty percent of accidents were attributed to its use. This was later changed to the General Electric F110 engine which improved the F14 Tomcat modelŐs thrust-to-weight ratio. Although the Tomcat had been introduced in 1974, it was only in January 1976 when it became a VF-101 squadron (Grim Reapers) aircraft.
This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
