Mastercraft Collection: HU-16 Albatross USCG..
Wingspan: 12 inches
Length: 7.8 inches
After finalizing the design, the Grumman Albatross was introduced as a large amphibious flying boat. It was basically an upgraded version of the Grumman Mallard with a deep-V hull section and longer airframe. The HU-16 entered military service through the US Air Force, the US Navy and the US Coast Guard. It served primarily as a search and rescue aircraft, fetching downed pilots. When it was flying for the USAF in the early stages, the Albatross was designated as the SA-16. It wasnÕt until 1962 when the designation HU-16 was used. It was at that time when the long-wing variant rolled out of the factories, being called as the HU-16B.
