Developed by Fairchild-Republic in the early 1970s, the A-10 Thunderbolt II was designed for the United States Air Force to provide close air support (CAS) of ground forces by attacking tanks, armored vehicles and other ground forces with limited air interdiction capability. Also called the Warthog, the A-10 aircraft is fitted with 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon, which can penetrate even the toughest of armors. Designed for durability, the Thunderbolt II was built with 540 kg or titanium armor, which enables the aircraft to continue flying even when damaged.
This model includes models of an AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missile (used for self-defense), and the commonly used ground assault weapons, AGM-65 Maverick air-to-surface missile and MK-82 500-lb bomb (each displayed on the base in 1/44 scale.)
