Equipped with Nakajima Hikari 710 horsepower engines, the initial prototype of the Aichi D3a Val was accomplished in December 1937; it had its maiden flight in 1938. During the attack on Pearl Harbor on the 7th of December 1941, there were 126 D3As used. The aircraft was sometimes used as a fighter aircraft because of its agile features. Compared with any other aircraft model, the D3A successfully sank the most number of Allied navy ships.
