Mastercraft Collection: XP-59 Airacomet..
Wingspan: 12 inches
Length: 10.3 inches
The Bell P-59 Airacomet was the first jet aircraft of the US. Its production was spearheaded by USAAF General Henry ‘Hap’ Arnold after attending an RAF demonstration in 1941 and was impressed by the British Gloster E.28/39 jet aircraft. The jet fighter aircraft was armed with just one 37mm cannon along with a battery of a trio of 12.7mm machine guns, which were all nestled in the nose. Its twin powerplants that are embedded to either side of the fuselage give out a complete 2,800 lbs. of thrust. Though the aircraft was outfitted with two turbojet engines, the Bell aircraft is no match with the propeller-manipulated, piston-powered P51 Mustangs.
This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
