The Lockheed WV-2 Warning Star was a Cold War-era early warning and surveillance aircraft that was used to detect if the Chinese Red Hordes crossed the northern Atlantic and northern Pacific Oceans. Though a descendant of another Lockheed Aircraft, the Constellation, its major difference from its predecessor was its ventral and dorsal radar domes. The Warning Star flew equipped with AN/APS-45 height finder radar on its back and AN/APS-20 air search radar on its belly, proving that it was possible for aircraft to fly while equipped with external radar. It saw heavy use as a member of the US Navy and Air Force fleets. The last remaining Warning Star models were former members of the US Navy Fleet that had been turned over to the Air Force. They received constant improvements and modifications as microminiaturization, computer, and communications technologies evolved.
This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
