Mastercraft Collection: F4U-5 Corsair "Death Rattlers"..
Wingspan: 12 inches
Length: 9.7 inches
“Whistling Death” was the name given to Corsair by the Japanese because of its distinguishing sound. Although the aircraft’s appearance seemed to be peculiar (as if getting assembled from parts of assorted planes), this “warbird” became incomparable. In WW2, F4U was able to outrun any enemy aircraft and became the well-known air superiority that took down Japanese Zero. The last variant: F4U- 5 Corsair with its bent wing (gull wing) characteristic was a part of a numerous variants made from the Chance Vought F4U aircraft. Marine Attack Squadron 323 or VMA-323 (a re-designated name from VMFA-323) is more recognized by their nickname “Death Rattlers”. They have been using the Chance Vought F4U on their training since the Pacific Theater war that perfected their dive bombing, rocketry and aerial combat to name a few.
