The F-14 Tomcat is a two-seat multirole combat aircraft. In the1950s, the US Navy expressed for an interceptor aircraft to defend its carrier battle group. In response to this need, the General Dynamics F-111B interceptor was developed, but due to troubles with weight and performance, the project was shelved. After the demise of the F-111B project, the development of the F-14 Tomcat was born. The F-14 Tomcat served the US Navy as its principal maritime air superiority fighter. With 8 ordnance hardpoints, the Tomcat can carry an assortment of shot to long-range air-to-air missiles. The F-14 debuted in its service with the VF-1 squadron (Wolfpack) in 1974. Aboard the USS Enterprise, F-14 flew to Saigon during the Operation Frequent Wind to evacuate US personnel.
