The PBM-5 Mariner is a flying amphibian aircraft that served government units such as the Netherlands Naval Aviation, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the U.S Navy during the Cold War and World War II. This aircraft has the ability to land and operate for several hours over water. Flying at 205 mph and climbing at 800 feet per minute, the PBM Mariner is used for rescue, anti-sub patrol, and reconnaissance. It was built with superior performance, allowing it to sink 10 German U-boats during World War II. This aircraft was operated primarily for reconnaissance missions in the Pacific Theater. This aircraft, which made its first flight in 1939, had more than 1,235 units built. It retired in Uruguay in 1964.
