The de Havilland Beaver DHC-2 was recognized by the Canadian Engineering Centennial Board as one of the top ten Canadian Engineering achievements of the 20th century. It was de Havilland Canada’s first bush plane designed for passenger and cargo hauling, crop dusting, aerial topdressing, and even for flights and missions in rugged and remote areas. Because of its ability to take off and land almost anywhere, nine units of the DHC-2 Beaver are still used by the USAF Civil Air Patrol for search and rescue. In 1951, it was also the U.S. Air Force’s and Army’s liaison aircraft of choice. It was also seen in the Pacific theater, particularly in the Korean and Vietnam wars. After bringing more than 1,600 Beavers into being, production of this highly versatile aerial truck shut down in 1967.
