The A-20 Havoc was a highly improved version of the Douglas Model 7B. Although the US Army showed no interest in the Model 7B, the French felt otherwise and ordered 270 production aircraft under the designation DB-7. In 1939, the Air Corps also placed an order for 63 aircraft to fill their need for a high-altitude attack bomber. The DB-7 was later modified for a turbo-supercharged version of the Wright Cyclone radial engine. Designated the A-20 Havoc, it had a unique appearance due to its air inlets that were mounted on the aft outboard section of the engine nacelles. The A-20 Havoc was a fast modern attack plane that played a vital role during the Second World War. As a light bomber, it was later superseded by the Douglas A-26 Invader, while the Northrop P-61 Black Widow filled its role as a night-fighter.
