Mastercraft Collection: O-1 Bird Dog Army..
Wingspan: 12 inches
Length: 8.8 inches
In the latter part of the 1940s, the US Army realized the need to have a new observation and liaison aircraft that is absolutely unrestricted by the shortcomings of the earlier models. This has led to the release and circulation of specification details of an all-metal dual seat observation and liaison monoplane to manufacturers of light aircrafts in the US. Cessna’s entry, the Model 305A, has been declared as the winner. The company was eventually awarded with an initial contract of creating 418 aircrafts on May 29, 1950. The Cessna aircraft’s ‘Bird Dog’ moniker was chosen by Gen. Mark Clark from a list given by Cessna employees. It had been modified by the Army and the Air Force into several models and roles for relevant uses.
This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
