Product Details

In August 1952, the Lockheed L-1049 TWA Constellation was delivered to TWA as N6901C and was dubbed “Star of the Thames.” Throughout the 1950s, the Lockheed airplane had been in a race with Douglas for the airplane that was the fastest, had the longest range, and most economical. Douglas began the race with its DC-4. However, Lockheed had countered with its L1049 which was no doubt a faster plane and even pressurized. When the larger, faster, and pressurized DC-6 model was developed, Lockheed was led to introduce the next thing in airliners, which was the Super Constellation. Bigger by more than 18 feet and powered by Wright R-350 radials, the brand new Super Connie was faster and had a higher flying altitude than the DC-6.

This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
