The F-86F Sabre was the first piston-engine powered aircraft to have a swept-wing configuration. Used by the United States Air Force, the Sabre had the distinction of being the most important aircraft during the Korean War. This flying machine was introduced to the USAF in 1949; since then, the aircraft has been used by various military units from all over the world including Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, and Canada. Proven versatile and efficient, the F-86 Sabre was a highly capable dogfighter that could fly at a maximum speed of 687 mph. This fighter aircraft flew 670 miles per hour in 1948—a feat that marked the Sabre’s first world speed record. The 86 Sabre set records and was in commission for almost 5 decades, retiring in 1994.
