Mastercraft Collection: Dixie Clipper Boeing 314..
Wingspan: 12 inches
Length: 8.3 inches
The Boeing 314 Clipper, or the “Dixie Clipper,” was a long-range passenger flying boat designed by the Boeing Aircraft Company. The aircraft features a monocoque fuselage and monoplane wing assembly. However, the Dixie Clipper’s most prominent and recognizable feature was its three-fin tail assembly, which provided additional control of the airframe. It utilized the wings and engine nacelles of the Boeing XB-15 bomber but used the new Wright 1,500 horsepower Double Cyclone engines. Because of its nose that looked similar to that of the Boeing 747, the Dixie Clipper became the “jumbo” airplane of its time. The Dixie Clipper served the US military at the height of the Second World War, but returned to civilian flight duties afterward.
