Also known as Old Shaky, the Douglas C-124 Globemaster II was a freight transport aircraft manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. This piston-powered cargo aircraft was first operated on November 27, 1949 and entered service in 1950 before the Korean War began. This military transport plane was similar to the C-74 but with an enlarged fuselage for carrying heavier payload. In fact, it was the only US transport capable of carrying tanks and large trucks. Its double-decked cabin could also handle 200 seats for troops or 123 litters for casualty lodging. The C-124 was in operation with the 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia Air National Guards (ANG) until 1974.
This handcrafted model is painted in the same paint scheme as the original and is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen. Perfect as a gift for any aviation enthusiast and history buff!
